Other Notable Research on the Role of Social Connections in Human Health

A study involving more than 66,000 individuals across Europe and Israel (average age 70) published online on October 25, 2021, in Ageing & Society, found that those with the healthiest levels of social connections and the highest participation in activities scored the highest on cognitive tests compared to those with the lowest levels of social connections and participation.

An earlier study of 1,100 adults (average age about 80) over five years found that those who were the most socially active had a 70% lower risk of cognitive decline compared to those with the lowest levels of social activity.
