The ideal diet is not a typical “weight-loss program” but a way of selecting foods that promote health, combat diseases, and naturally facilitate weight loss.
Galit Goldfarb is currently a professional member of the American Nutrition Association and the American Society for Nutrition. She has been working in the health field for over 22 years. During her time in various research laboratories and with numerous individual clients, Galit has authored eight books on health and personal development, including the #1 international bestseller, The Guerrilla Diet & Lifestyle Program, based on her extensive research on the ideal diet for humans.
She shared information about “The Ideal Diet for Humans” as a TED & Talks speaker. The video has nearly 5 million views and over 4,000 comments. Watch the full video here.
Below is a summary of the video:
How to ensure a healthy meal every day?
Every day, while preparing meals for my children to take to school, I strive to provide them with nutritious meals. However, this is not always easy. At times, my children ask, “Why can’t we eat like other kids?” I explain that if more parents were informed about nutrition, schools might also change their menus. This is why I am here—to share what I have learned.
Global health and obesity statistics
Today, there are about 1.9 billion overweight people worldwide, accounting for over a quarter of the global population. It’s not just about calorie consumption; 70% of adults suffer from chronic diseases, and 50% of the population requires daily medication for life. Why is that?
We are led to believe that what we eat is “normal,” but in reality, it’s not. We follow societal norms, accepting products sold by large companies, even though they are not truly beneficial for our health.
What is the ideal diet for humans?
The ideal diet is not a typical “weight-loss program” but a way of selecting foods that promote health, combat diseases, and naturally facilitate weight loss. I want to share my journey – from seeking health, battling illness, and ultimately discovering the suitable diet for humans.
At 16, my parents divorced, and my life changed when I lived with my father and stepmother, who often cooked delicious meals rich in butter, cream, and salt. I quickly gained weight, lost confidence, and spent a decade and a half struggling with an eating disorder.
Later, I decided to delve deeper into nutrition, earning a bachelor’s degree in nutritional science and biochemistry, along with alternative medicine certifications. Even when I opened a clinic and applied this knowledge to myself, the results were only temporary.
A turning point came at age 40 when I was diagnosed with cancer. As a mother of four, I couldn’t give up. I spent over two years researching every scientific field, from medicine to ecology. This led me to discover the ideal diet—an approach based on human evolution and the body’s real needs.
Ideal foods throughout human evolution
3.5 million years ago, in the tropical forests of Africa, our ancestors began eating plant-based foods rich in carbohydrates and fats. As the environment changed, they adapted to new foods such as grains, vegetables, legumes, nuts, and fruits. Animal foods like meat were not the main source of nutrition, as game animals often had little fat, and consuming excessive protein could be harmful.
Studies indicate that our ancestors lived long, healthy lives due to a plant-rich diet. These foods provided the nutrients needed for brain development and disease prevention.
What makes this ideal diet different?
Diet directly impacts cellular environments, which determine our health. A healthy cellular environment activates good genes, while an unhealthy one leads to disease. The food we eat daily plays a more significant role than genetics.
By adopting this diet, I cured myself of cancer and lost weight effortlessly. I didn’t require radiation therapy and have maintained my health for years. When the body receives adequate nutrition, cravings and overeating naturally subside.
While everyone has minor individual needs, research shows that 99.9% of our DNA is identical, and the ideal diet for humans remains largely unchanged. We simply need to return to what is natural and best suited for our bodies to achieve health and fulfillment.
More about Galit Goldfarb
Galit Goldfarb’s journey began with her own struggle—battling bulimia as a teenager and committing to learning everything she could about nutrition and science at university, yet failing to achieve the health she desired. Later, she studied medicine and opened a clinic upon returning home. However, her patients only experienced temporary relief. Her cancer diagnosis spurred her to explore every aspect of human health, reading extensively across scientific fields until she uncovered the answer: a “guerrilla” diet that defied everything she had been taught!
Galit walks us through ancient human history, supported by evidence about the health and diet of early humans (who lived to age 70, ate plants, nuts, fruits, and legumes), and how humanity has misguidedly deviated from this diet. Free of cancer (without radiation therapy), her final argument is simple—although an omnivorous diet may be pleasurable in the short term, it is neither healthy for humans nor sustainable for our planet in the long term.
Galit holds a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Biochemistry and Nutrition, a Master’s degree in Medical Science with distinction, and has completed extensive studies in Immunology through a Postgraduate Certificate Program. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Nutrition. Galit conducts workshops, lectures, online programs, and personal coaching to help individuals achieve optimal health.
